We've been to Yellowstone several times on both motorcycle trips and with the MH. Our best wildlife viewing was right in the middle of the day. Our worst was when we tried an early morning drive. The bears seem to like the mid day especially the mama bears and cubs. We visited the Grand Prismatic Pool way before this platform was built or many knew you could get the good view from the Fairy Falls trail. It was an unbelievable steep climb up through the woods with tons of fallen trees to climb over. It was crazy hard but so worth the view. Too bad you weren't able to hike back. I would have enjoyed your photos of this special place. You captured some beautiful wildlife photos, Howard. Thanks for sharing.

Pam,
We too scrambled off the Ferry Falls trail back in 2012 for that amazing view.

Here are a couple photos from that time.

I totally agree with your appreciation for how well the wildlife rangers handle the crowds during animal sightings, and many of them are volunteers. We experienced it time and again while living at Grand Teton NP last summer. They work very hard to keep the people and animals separated while still allowing for a wonderful experience. It is amazing how stupid people can be around wild animals.
Looking forward to your Alaska trip!
