The Alabama Hills are great fun. There are tons of arches and they all have names. I purchased a books called Arches of Alabama Hills in the museum for $10. It divides the Hills into sections and shows you were all the arches are and names them. We have now found every arch int he book. It is a fun challenge to try to locate each arch. The Lathe Arch was right next to the Mobius Arch and makes neat photos, as well. Here is one of our posts on several of the arches. https://ohtheplacestheygo.wordpress.com/2015/10/26/arches-in-the-alabama-hills/ We also hiked three miles up to Lone Pine Lake which starts at the Whitney Portal. So you can get a little taste of the "easier" part of the trail to the top. Here is that post:https://ohtheplacestheygo.wordpress.com/2015/10/27/hiking-the-mt-whitney-trail/

Whitney Portal trail is a hike for you to consider. Here is a link to Wheelingit.com and their description of the trail.

Darn! I was in Lone Pine from 11/7 to 11/14, sure wish I was subscribed to this feed, I would have said hello in person! I tried to find boondocking at Alabama Hills but every spot was taken (on a Wednesday afternoon!) except the one at the very end before descending down into the valley. I stayed one night in that spot, but it was soooo windy that I thought I would roll down that hill, so I left at daybreak! Tuttle Creek is indeed a lovely campground, but I wound up at Diaz Lake.

I'm subscribed now, so I won't miss any more posts. :-)
