We thought it might be a rainy drive from London, KY to Sevierville, but we managed to avoid most of the moisture. However, it was quite windy, and high gusts were reported. Certainly, some of the lighter weight RVs were being blown around on the roads.
We heard reports of gusts reaching 80 and 90 mph in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park, and the Park was closed for a time while downed trees were removed from some of the roads.
We got parked in our usual Rally site, #441, and settled in. After we got backed in, Jenny J., a veteran of RV-Dreams Rallies, including our very first one in 2008, pulled up. We immediately went over and gave her a big ol' hug. Jenny took a bus from Tennessee to attend that first Rally and to meet so many of the people that she "met" online back in the day.
Jenny is here for the Key Lime Campers Rally. This is the first big rally for the "Fifty and Over RV'ers" Facebook Group.
In our first hour, we saw two other couples that had attended prior RV-Dreams Rallies that are now full-timers and have been on the road a little while. Awesome. And soon after that, Frank & Rosita, stopped by. They have attended two other Rallies and came back for more. :)
Later on, Pat & Bridget knocked on our door. They are also prior Rally attendees, and they were hoping to attend this one in their new Augusta fifth wheel. Unfortunately, it didn't get out of production in time, so they had to get a hotel room instead. But Bridget still came with a batch of her delicious cookies.
So, we haven't been here long, but we've already seen many of our friends.
Most of Friday and Saturday have been chilly and rainy and our Pre-Rally campfires have been washed out. But that has allowed us to get some work done and finalize some Rally preparations. Also, Linda cleaned out our cabinets. That's at least part of a long-overdue purge of stuff from the RV.
Fortunately, the weather is supposed to clear on Sunday so we can have a Sunday evening campfire and meet many of the early arrivals. And the weather looks great going into the first part of the week.
So, for today, Saturday, we'll just sit back and enjoy the Kentucky Derby in our cozy fifth wheel, and look forward to tomorrow's sunshine.
Oh, by the way, if anyone out there still wants to come to the 2017 RV-Dreams Spring Educational Rally, we've had a couple of very late cancellations, so we have some open spots available. Just let us know if you want to try to make it. :)
