Boy, Howard, I sure give you credit for tackling all that SSA stuff and doing a great job. I retired from SSA with 25 years 13 years ago and when I read your first post, I was thinking that was really comprehensive but I still have WEP to contend with. So the fact that you have now even broached that minefield is terrific. I am using workamping now to try to get insured as I was under the old Federal system. I am only 57 now so I think I will make it but I know they will take a lot of it away from me. For me, that would be great if they repealed it especially since no one understands it. I guess I will be happy if I just get enough to pay my Medicare premium.

Fantastic job!! The scenarios really made it very clear to me, so thanks for presenting it in that way. It's a shame the zero dollar years water down the benefit so much, and giving up my highest wage years did give me pause prior to entering the lifestyle. The highest wage years though also coincide with our healthiest years with no kids in the house and that's how we looked at it. How do we want to spend those years, earning money towards a benefit we might never get or living our life to the fullest. Ultimately we chose the latter and don't regret it. $700 less a month might really matter when I am older, but I can't imagine giving all this up for that. We just plan on working part-time longer so hopefully we can balance it out with additional income saved and use that money to supplement. You really got me thinking though, so thanks for that.
