Thanks for info on DirecTV, but still have one question that I cannot find anywhere or have seen anyone address. That question is that what I have seen from others is that to have DirecTV directly from them you need to have a brick permanent house address that is connected to the account. Then you can just take your equipment in the RV around the country and set it up based on the new location and use those coordinates in the DVR box. Or can you now without going through KVH or some other reseller have your account directly with ATT/DirecTV without a permanent address/house and just use your mail forwarding address / mailing address as the "home". I sure hope this is coming across as to what my question really is.

Howard, I saw in your post where you had your rig washed and waxed. I think I will call that company and see if they can do mine on Feb 2 or 3 after we arrive on the 1st. It is filthy and needs it bad. We will see you the first of Feb.

To weigh in on what Doug was asking, I set up my DirecTV with my billing address as my mail forwarding address and the campground I was at when I signed up as the service address. The installer wouldn't use my tripod, so I told him to put a pole in the ground (I got the campground's OK). When we left, I took the dish and I called and changed my service address...no problem. With that being said, we have been stationary for long periods, so we will probably want to get DNS or the AM21 Off Air Tuner hat Howard has above, now that we are moving more. That way, I'll be able to make Michigan my service address and be able to get Fox Sports Detroit.

Doug,
It can be a hassle, but you can set up through DirecTV. Sometimes it takes talking to the right person, and since they don't deal with RVers that often (in the overall scheme of things), many of the customer service reps don't understand our situation. You certainly don't have to have your account through a reseller. They do need a service address and they may make the address the place you are parked when they set up your service. They may also require that they set up a dish for you - just make sure it's portable so you can take it with you. They aren't allowed to work with rooftop dishes (company policy), but I was told by a tech that if you think they know what they are doing, you can slip them an extra $20 and they might just connect to a rooftop.

As is often the case, there are the hard and fast rules and then various ways to get around those rules to get what you need. :)

I’ve had a new DirecTV receiver, a Genie, new account, installed in my trailer with the roof top antenna already installed. No problem. However, the satellite antenna did have to be working. I.e. working, on the satellite and in the case of the Genie it does, as Howard has noted, have to be a SWM antenna. (A receiver is not required to point the Winegard automatic antenna and have the antenna lock onto satellites.) Installation is only an issue if the rooftop antenna is not working or cabled to the DirecTV receiver location.

When calling DirecTV I recommend asking for the "Mobile" service and just keep asking until they transfer you to a person who is familiar with RVs. As Howard also note, RVs are a small fraction of the CSR calls and some just don't understand what we need.
