Another term used a lot by college kids is 'you get me'. They will be explaining something and after every sentence they insert 'you get me' as if to make sure I am following along.
I always tell them that they keep losing me because of the 'you get me' interruptions!
Anyways I really LIKED your rant :)

As the daughter of three girls we worked very hard to eliminate uptalk, like, and Valley Girl speak from their vocabulary...at least while they were in our house. We also taught them how to shake hands and look people in the eye while talking to them. As a consequence, we get lots of compliments on how well our daughters communicate and they do well in interviews. I love the Bachelor also (it's my fluff time as I call it), but I do wonder who parented these girls. Hopefully the pressure of unfamiliar surroundings and constant cameras is just bringing out their worst. P.S. I love your rants !!

That was, like, really, like, cruel! What the hell is, like, wrong with you? Did you, like, get up on the wrong side of the bed, like this morning?

Somehow "like" has taken the place of "um" as the filler of choice for a lot of people (mostly young but not all) and is even more distracting. 90% of the time they have no idea because no one has pointed it out (because their peers all do it too). Don't get me started on the dumbing down of America through reality shows...... :-) Glad you're back in warmer temps!

Glad you liked my home town of Dayton Ohio. I haven't been there in probably 30 years. It was an OK place to be "from". Love your rants especially since I agree with them. Great story about not hiring people with stupid speak. That was a very clear message and it's seldom that job applicants know why they weren't selected. I think most managers are uncomfortable telling those truths. Hats off to you.
