We had signed up for Avera back in January, and were told by two different reps that we were covered outside of SD. Then I read that they weren't going to. I decided to get ahold of Kyle who suggested we start looking at Texas. Drat. I kept insisting that Avera had told me otherwise, and he finally found out from them that they had changed their policy. Thank goodness we didn't jump the gun and switch domiciles. We are getting such a great subsidy, that signing up with Avera made the most sense. Keeping our fingers crossed that nothing changes in the future!

After weeks of research I selected SD as my state of residence; fortunately healthcare is not an issue as I am a retired soldier. Folks that want to enjoy this full time RV lifestyle really need to be realistic and ask themselves the tough questions. It's not for everyone. But sadly, some folks make the leap on hope & a prayer. I'm headed to Stone Mountain, GA this weekend enroute to a Care-A-Vanner build. Looking forward to the Lase show & some golf! Maybe I'll see you guys someday.

In Texas you can now register your rv for longer than a year. In May 2013 I registered mine through May 2015. Then when my inspection expired and I took it in, then inspection sticker was also through May 2015.

We are happy that we changed to SD. We saved so much money on vehicle insuranc and registration. We are on Medicare so not as worried with all the perils of Obamacare except for the fact that Medicare is being robbed to help pay for Obamacare. Hopefully it won't be around that long.

Thank you for posting this. We are vacitating between SD and TX and it helps. Hopefully this will all shake out by he end of the calendar year. I just had a minor surgery and the price tag was $6k. My insurance company negotiated it down to $1800 which shows how important it is to have he right kind of insurance.
