Howard, Bev and I just finished up a 4 night boondocking stay at Curt Gowdy SP outside Cheyenne WY and our fridge failed to do its job. The temp inside the fridge got to 60+ degrees and we lost all our perishables. We did some research and found that Norcold does not recommend operating on propane above 5500ft. We were at 7000ft. We've since moved to the Jellystone Park in Estes Park CO (7600ft) with full hookups and the temp inside the fridge has dropped to 40 degrees after two days on AC.

In your discussions with Leon could you explore the issue of using propane at higher altitudes and see if he has any recommendations as to any adjustments to the burner that could be made (or any other suggestions) to allow us to boondock at higher altitudes?

ugh. . .yup. . .we've seen that ugly sight too. . .and of course the warranty company will only replace the cooling unit. . .good luck!

Hey J.C.,

I'll talk to Leon, but in the meantime, here is a link to a video question/answer directly related to your question.

Gary Bunzer - The RV Doctor talks Norcold Refrigerators at high altitude.

Will you share with your readers the cost of your service warranty and how much it has saved you the past 6 or 7 years? I am glad to hear that you are doing better.
