Hi Howard, Another great post and thanks for the info on the Wilson cell phone booster, which we plan to purchase soon. We recently looked into the Satellite dish you have and realized the company had gone out of business. I was told by the distributor that new satellite systems start at $10K now, and there is no one else in the $5-6K market.

So we'll be going with our cell phone booster and WIFI booster for our business when we start traveling in July. May have to modify our plans a bit -as to where we set up but I'm sure we'll work it out.

howard and linda,

you are in one of my most favorite places on the planet. that part of new mexico is so beautiful it is frightening . . . a quiet, austere beauty . . . an enormous sky. how lucky to be alone together in the campground. i will live these next few days vicariously through you, and i will think about you under the same moon that i am looking up at here in louisville. thank you for the post.

Years ago when I worked at the Very Large Array we would eat dinner at the restaurant in Datil. The green chile cheese burgers were delicious.

Can't wait to hear about your trip down the Canyon. I've done it once as well as a 2 week trip on the river. Be aware the trail is a long downhill and uphill and not a lot of water. I've known folks who couldn't face the hike back up and took a helicopter out! On the other hand, my DH and stepdaughter hiked in and out in one day in July just to meet me a Phantom Ranch in the middle of the river trip. They lost a couple of toenails and weren't very mobile the next day ;-)

This description of your camp makes me feel like it may very well have the "IT" factor.

Who was the manufacturer of your automatic dish that went out of business?

Kathy,
If you are still considering satellite internet, check with the folks at Mobile Satellite Technologies: http://www.mobilsat.com/

I think they may have systems in that "lower" price range.

J.C.,

MotoSat went out of business. The company that bought them did so just to access their customer base.

Love that area of New Mexico. Make sure you go to Pie Town and get a pie there. They're fantastic!
Good info on the Wilson sleek. We've been considering it for a while.

Thanks for the tip, Howard. I've contacted Mobilsat.com. You're such a great resource as always:)

Thanks for the information on both this BLM CG and the satellite booster. We actually looked into it so it's good to read your information. Looking forward to your report on your GC hike.
