Maybe if you'd done some research like you do for all your other travel in advance you would have had a better time! Not getting away from the tourist area is like going to Kentucky and judging the whole experience on a visit to the horse track in off-season. And the local aren't suppose to speak English - its Mexico!

Ditto what Bonnie said. We love Rocky Point. First time we went there we went for a week and ended up staying two. We've been back three times since. We also invited family down there (they love to play golf) and they've been back a couple of times themselves (staying in condos instead of the RV parks, but still...). Our park of choice is Playa Bonita. Sure, it's just a sand lot, all cramped together, but that's not the point. It's right on the beach! One of the best restaurants in town is a short walk, right next door. We have always felt safe (and happy) in Rocky Point and look forward to our next visit. Oh, and did I mention the Golf courses? 8^)
Not ever RV site needs to be out in the wilderness in order to be a delight.

There are lots of places people love that we don't care for and lots of places we love that others hate. We get that.

However, it is OUR blog and we try to write with honesty about OUR impressions whether or not others agree with them. Though it seems to be changing in this country, I believe we are still entitled to an opinion, especially on our own blog. :)

Bonnie, no need to shout. :) You are probably correct that more research may have led to a better experience and perhaps a better overall impression, but it wouldn't have changed OUR opinion of the RV parks we visited.

Also, we weren't complaining about locals not speaking English; we were just surprised that no one in a big American-based store on a route traveled by numerous Americans spoke English. No big deal.

J.C., I believe I mentioned "Every pot has a lid" which means there's a match for everyone and clearly, because Playa Bonita was full, many folks don't share OUR opinion of it. However, FOR US because "it's just a sand lot, all cramped together" IS the point and FOR US it made no difference that it was right on the beach (which WE didn't feel was all that great either). :)

Howard and Linda,

Couldn't agree with you more about Puerto Penasco. It's just not "our" kind of place. We go for the shrimp and that's about it. Know many others who enjoy it though. We like State Parks with the "It" factor, especially those in Oregon and Washington.

So It's "different strokes for different folks" I guess. :)

We took our graduating granddaughter and her friend to Puerto Penasco several years ago, rented a house (very inexpensive) in a gated subdivision and had a ball! The girls loved the market, Mike and I sat on the sea wall shown in one of your photos. We ate well and the girls were entertained--that's why we went. We agree with you about the RV parks--not for us!

Hi there, We are planning a vacation down to Puerto Pensaco (Mayan Palace) in June. We will be driving with 5 kids. We are curious about the border at Lukesville to Puerto Penasco and safety. Any info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks
