I'm so enjoying seeing Yellowstone again thru your posts (we went in 2007).

Lamar Valley was one of our favorite areas. (We stayed in the Roosevelt Cabins for a few nights and found the whole less populated corner of the park delightful.)

Not sure of your timetables but if you have time, you might want to drive out of the Park and thru Silver Gate headed to the Beartooth Parkway. The area is gorgeous alpine vistas and lakes.

We've always said we'd go back to that area if ever in Yellowstone again. No interest in driving down (or up!) the Beartooth's steep/crazy portion again, but the area between Yellowstone and the descent is beautiful.

We are enjoying your trip to Yellowstone, one of our favorite places to visit! When you go to the beautiful Lamar Valley be sure and go on to Cooke City, just a few miles outside the NE entrance. Interesting little town with a nice Visitor Center and good facilities. :) We have seen moose, bear, wolves, and many other wild life along this Lamar Valley route. (We are traveling in the northeast this year and missing our usual Yellowstone and Glacier trip.)

Well your pictures did it Howard. Tony says we need to go back to Yellowstone again. It's been a few years and it is one of our favorite places to visit.
Great photos!!

Hi, I'm a long time geyser gazer and I'm wondering if you have thought of staying at Baker's Hole? It is right outside of West Yellowstone close to the lovely geysers. If the smoke stays away (I have asthma) we will be around the park and I would love to take you and your wife to some back country spots that I am sure you would love.

You are visiting my favorite area of the Park--we frequently spend my birthday in early September touring around the Mammoth area and enjoying birthday dinner in the Mammoth dining room. We've watched people approach elk too closely and have seen the bull elk put people up on top of cars. We've seen bull elk scrape their horns downs the sides of cars. I love to hear the elk bugle and you should be hearing some bugling now or soon. Enjoy your stay guys!

Yellowstone and Grand Tetons are the favorite parks Connie and I have been to. I was stationed in Idaho Falls while doing nuclear power training back in the 70's and we spent a lot of time hiking/camping in those two parks. How are the crowds overall? I'm guessing that this late in August they're much less than they were back in mid summer. Looking forward to getting back out that way next spring/summer/fall to revisit old places and find new ones.
