You have to do the Upper and Lower Terrace area just outside of Mammoth. The drive through the Upper Terrace is wonderful, and the rocks, (formations of calcium carbonate) are very interesting, many a good picture up in there. Many people miss the entrance to the drive, thinking it is just a parking lot there. -- Dave

Don't miss the only "official" spot to hot tub in the park. It's located 1.5miles north of the entrace to your campground, just after you cross into Montana but before the North Entrance Road crosses the Gardiner river. There's a small parking area on the right and left sides of the road (park in the right lot if possible). Wear your water shoes and bring some swimming gear. It's a 0.5 mile hike south on a trail along the Gardiner river to the spot where hot water from a spring flows into the Gardiner river. Lots of places to sit in the warm water where the two mix. (At least the rangers allowed it back in 2009). Enjoy

Gotta second Lance's recommendation on the hot pots. Yellowstone Park has been my backyard for 50 years and the hot pots are a real treat winter or summer. You get to choose your water temperature where the Boiling River and Gardiner Rivers mix. Try sitting under the hot water falls and letting it pound aching shoulders! There are no discreet changing areas so take along a big towel.

Looking forward to enjoying Yellowstone through your blog.I haven't been there in years. If you haven't already checked them out, Bill and Cap (Cathy)at viewsfromtheopenroad.blogspot.com are in their 5th? summer workcamping at Yellowstone and know all of the great trails to hike. I hope the smoke subsides soon. Enjoy!

Beautiful pictures again! We cannot wait to see this ourselves!!

Came back in July from three weeks out west. Deadwood, Yellowstone, Galcier, Grand Tetons, Waterton Lakes, and Medora SD and back to TN. Had such a good time, we can't wait to go back. We wanted to go to Oregon next, but have to work. So can't wait to see your Oregon photos. There is soo much beauty out west it can make you weep for joy! The hiking trail around the lodge in Waterton Lakes, is really one of the prettiest views ever. Seeing the wild donkeys in Custer State Park and bears in Yellowstone, and Prairie Dogs were sooo cute.
