Howard, can you weight truck campers with this system? We have one and from reading the truck camper forums its an issue getting an accurate weight and finding your GVWR. Have the weight folks ever gone to a truck camper rally?

Howard, Do you provide Pin weight Since you didn't mention it on your rig?

I thought I would ask since pin/hitch weight can really affect handling of a 5th wheel or TT trailer.

In my case, it reduces the front axle weight of my truck by about 1100 lbs. For my setup this is not a bad thing but for the unaware, it can be a risk factor.

There is a local restaurant just west of the Essenhaus (on rte 20) called "The Hilltop" It is just a local little place with good food (very good pies)and a down home atmosphere. We go and stay at the Essenhaus a lot and always have a lunch or dinner there. Also the pastries at the Essenhaus bakery are to die for (and if I lived closer I would proably do it) Good luck on the new venture. You have really gained quite a reputation in your years of traveling. Amazing what the internet will do. I am in Cleveland working so maybe if you get close we could finally meet. Jim

Congratulations on your new gig w/ rigs!! I have read most of your post and their is def an education tone to what you do so it seems like a good fit and I suspect it will end up being a launching point for other wonderful things.
Pam

No idea of how much air goes into their tires? Scary!

Alice,

Yes, we can weigh truck campers. Most people with truck campers don't want to take their camper off the truck, so usually we just weigh the truck with the loaded camper. That tells us what we need to know as far as the tires, axles, and truck's capacity are concerned.

However, if folks are willing to weigh the truck with the camper and then back up, drop the camper, and re-weigh the truck, we get the best numbers and can provide the weight of the loaded truck camper itself.

And finally, "No", RVSEF hasn't done a truck camper rally. But if the timing and location coincide with our travels, we'll certainly be willing to do one. :)

Emery,

Yes, we do provide pin weight. Our reports provide a complete analysis of everything needed for each type of RV.

I was shocked to hear you say you wouldn't have bought the Cambridge if you knew then what you know now. But of course now I want to know what you would buy.

This sure is a great new adventure. Congratulations!

Sherry,
We LOVE our Cambridge. And we have learned a lot over the years by needing to make upgrades and improvements to make it as safe and sound as possible.

BUT, if we would have had a better understanding of weights, cargo carrying capacity, etc. back then, we would have known that the posted cargo carrying capacity would have been very inadequate, and we most likely wouldn't have bought this rig.

Fortunately, we did know to get a truck with options that provided us with a few thousand pounds of safety margin.

As for what we would buy now, I have no idea. But I do know we would have the RV weighed before buying (new or used) and we would thoroughly review all the weight ratings. We would then know exactly how much weight we could add and whether or not it would be adequate.
