On Sunday, Jay & Karen went to the Jacksonville Jaguars football game. They asked if we wanted to go, but we declined and we were glad we did. :)
It was gray and windy with gametime temps in the low 30s. The announcers on TV said it was the coldest game in Jaguars history.
We stayed cozied up at the house where we watched a movie and then watched the football game.
Linda was starting to feel poorly, but she felt well enought to keep our dinner plans with Jay & Karen. We were meeting them at Maggiano's Little Italy in the sprawling St. John's Town Center shopping area.
But before we got there, we stopped and picked up a pocket video camera with the help of some Christmas gift cards. After reading tons of reviews and getting some feedback, I ultimately decided on the Kodak Playsport.
I had narrowed it down to the Playsport, the Sony Bloggie, and the Flip UltraHD. They all have their pros and cons, but the reviews were pretty good on the Playsport and the fact that it is waterproof up to ten feet sealed the deal. I just thought it would be better in the elements for our paddling and other outdoor adventures.
We had a wonderful dinner at Maggiano's at brought home bunches of leftovers. That will probably be the last holiday calorie splurge for the year. :)
Once we got back to the house, Linda's throat was getting worse and I dug out some medications for her. Looks like she won't be able to avoid the impending cold.
I unboxed the new camera and read the documentation while the battery charged. It looks pretty easy, maybe not quite as easy as the Flip, but pretty simple nonetheless.
It is slightly thicker than Linda's Droid 2 phone, but it's a tad smaller overall.
We also picked up one of the flexible tripods. It's really easy to use with the pocket video cameras.
I'm looking forward to doing some testing. :)
And with that, we called it a night.
Today, Monday, it was down below freezing, but I went for a short run and took the video camera. It has electronic image stabilization, but not enough to use it while jogging. :)
I did some testing and it works just how it's supposed to. It won't take the place of higher end video equipment, but it should do the job for which it was purchased.
Linda wasn't feeling great when I returned. She took some medicine and stayed bundled up under a blanket and read a book all day ... between naps.
I found a cheap poker tournament and went to play. I took the Playsport and set it on the dash on its tripod for a short car video test. The video was boring, but it was nice and smooth. Still, I may want to get a dashboard or window mount for it if we want to do much of that. :)
The poker tournament had 101 players and I made it to the top 30 before getting a really bad break. But I played well with the cards I was dealt, so I wasn't too upset.
Back at the house, Linda & Karen were reading, so I went to the bedroom, flipped on the TV and took a little nap of my own. :)
Eventually, Jay got home from work and Karen returned from one of her weekly meetings. We had a nice dinner of Italian leftovers and settled in for the evening.
Tonight, it's supposed to get down into the low 20s. Sheesh.
Looks like we have a few more cold days, but it's supposed to get warmer as we make our way down toward the Crystal River/Homosassa Springs area. I hope so - lots of paddling to do down in that area. :)
Highly recommend any type of Echinacea products (tea, drops, etc) for Linda's cold. I came down with something last Thursday and have been drinking Echinacea tea like crazy. All symptoms were gone by Monday.

We stayed at Lake Rouseau RV Park while in the area. We had a great time with the canoe trip down the Rainbow river--out of Dunnellon. They take you about 6 miles upriver to the Rainbow River State Park and then you paddle/coast back downstream to Dunnellon. Crystal Clear River!!!!! Homes all along the W bank. You will be amazed where the clear water of Rainbow meets the black water of the Withlacoochee.
Take the Singing River Tour out of the Blue Gator in Dunnellon---very interesting.
In Homassassa Springs, we enjoyed the wild life park greatly-----Have fun!!!!

I just got a small flat camera too. Found out that a nice leather Iphone carrying case works great to take it around. Clips on the belt and protects the LCD screen from scratches.
