I'm with Howard on this. Peace of mind is priceless. ( Take that now Visa Card !)CASH for toys. In the event that it is your retirement home, what a scary retirement to know that if something happens, and payments can't be made, your spouse would be homeless and on the road. There is no small interest rate difference or financial advantage to live with uncertainty. (Just my opinion, for my life)

I'm with Howard on this as well. I had never heard of Dave Ramsey before I stumbled over this site in ... Oh, early 2006. I wish I had heard of him and his philosphies much earlier.

"Neither borrower nor lender be..." from Hamlet. Still sound advice. Also, don't know where this one came from, but it's "The borrower becomes slave to the lender"....

I wish I had had both of them hammered into my head 40 years ago.

If you really and truly want to be free (this is just my opinion), you don't want to be indebted (financially) to anyone, even if it means scaling back your lifestyle expectations.

In colonial America the British government was opposed to westward expansion beyond the Allegheny mountains, because it put those pioneers out of reach of the tax magistrates. And for those pioneers, that's exactly what they wanted... let me take care of me and mine, and leave me alone.

Alas, there's no place left to go today, except to the ballot box.

I certainly did not mean for my comment yesterday to indicate any error what so ever with your article. You were right on perfect in my opinion.

Remember, our parents paid their house off..not 2nd mortgage. For a reason. If you are going to RV, I agree, be dedt free. The only, best way to go. Linda would love to hear more from you!!

Howard's system works. If I had listened to my CFP I would still be working and not happily retired.
