Back at the end of last year, I did a three and half year expense summary. You can see the results on the Three-Year Expense Averages page.
But I thought I would go ahead and update that by making it a "clean" four-year analysis. I haven't posted the new page yet, but I'll go ahead and give our Journal readers the basic numbers.
It works out pretty good. From our start in August 2005 through July 2009 is exactly four years - 48 months. Of those 48 months, we've workamped or volunteered for 16 complete months, exactly one third of our time on the road.
So here are the summary numbers.
Our average monthly expenses for our 48 months on the road has been $2,342 for an annualized average of $28,104.
Our average monthly expenses for the 32 months we did not work (or worked partial months) has been $2,682 for an annualized total of $32,185.
Our average monthly expenses for the 18 months we've worked has been $1,738 for an annualized total of $20,857.
Yep, still consistent. When we workamp, we still spend about $1,000 less per month than when traveling.
Interestingly, we've traveled on the cheap this year, and our averages actually have gone down for the travel months. The averages have gone up slightly for the workamping months. That has to do with earning more money and the old adage of "you tend to spend more if you have more". :)
Our entertainment expenses while workamping this year pushed that category average up $50 per month. We've spent a little more on fun stuff to break up the workamping.
All in all, no major surprises. But just thought you might like to see the update. :)
Wow that was really interesting... We have not tried work camping yet... We talk about it but never really pursue it. Thanks for the info.
