Hi Howard,

It seems these Co-ops are their own little mini-society. I can see where this can be an efficient, even ecologically low-impact way for a group of like-minded people to live.
That’s intriguing to me which leads to more questions….Many of the parks we’ve visited that have permanent residents end up with some pretty dumpy sites. How do they control that at the Co-op? I understand the lease situation but is there also some sort of annual assessment to cover the maintenance and social activities or does that come from investment of the lease dollars? How do they determine uses for the community areas, expansion, etc.,…is there ultimately some corporation that is truly the owner and ultimate decision-maker? For example, they do not appear to have Wifi, so what if the majority of the residents wanted Wifi? Then there are the more social issues….how and where do you cook enough turkeys for 200 people when everyone is living in RVs? Do people have to reserve ‘oven time’ in the community kitchen? What happens when the grandkids visit over the holidays…are they welcome to the social activities/dinners as well?

Thanks to you and Linda for blazing all these trails for us and reporting back. We are now within a couple of years of full-timing and have gotten lots of ideas and great information from you!

We camped at Gilbert Ray Campground 3 years ago and enjoyed it. It's very clean and quiet and in a beautiful area. It's also very close to the Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum which is a fantastic place to see all the plants and animals that live in the desert.

Howard,

Has anyone mentioned the Escapee "Boot Camp" at Quartsite in January?

My husband saw it in our Escapees magazine and seemed interested.

We have owned three motorhomes but are new to 5th wheels. I don't know if this would be too elementary for us or if it would be worth it.

Has anyone gone to a "Boot Camp" and if so, can you advise if a fairly handy retired engineer and his less mechanically inclined wife would get something out of it?

Thanks in advance.

Shame on you Howard, an American who doesn't drink coffee it must be almost unheard of (LOL), you must feel like a leper sometimes! I Haven't had coffee myself for over 10 years now as I used to drink too much and get "high". Now I drink Green Tea (hot and black), very low or no caffeine maybe you should try it. Sounds like you are in a great park with lots of activities and a really friendly group. I wish we were there with you.

was in Benson last year on the way to Duglus Az nice town friendly people

Howard,
Your friend Cindy asked some very good questions about Co-ops. Our experience here over five years (off and on)certainly shows that her concerns have been well answered. If we, as leaseholders, can be of any help to her, you can feel free to give her our email address.
