What a coincidence that we also encountered a rattlesnake yesterday and posted some photos on our blog. I guess we will all step carefully from now on! 'Tis the season.

First I read Maureen's post this morning, and then I read your post and I'm thinking, a bike ride sounds better than a hike!
Too close for comfort.
I have noticed after such encounters the pace slows dramatically.
Someone should make kevlar gators. I would be first in line for that purchase after the two snake posts.

OK, so where is the solar page you have been working on.....?????

After Cheryl sees the pics of your nature hike, I will never be able to convince her to go on a hike!!

Have you guys ever tried any hiking clothing treated to repel ticks, mosquitoes, and other bugs? We just ordered pants and shirts for times when we'll be in really buggy places. I figure it's better than using toxic chemicals on my skin. Ex Officio makes a great looking line of clothing and they carry it online at Sierra Trading Post at a significant discount.

We also found Oklahoma state park hiking trails were not well marked. We had quite an adventure in July 2006 while on a family reunion in Beaver Bend State Park on a 105 degree day! You really do have to "mark your trail"!
