Don't you guys need to replace clothes? Aside from the occasional new T-shirt I get for fun, I have worn out pants and shoes that had to be thrown out. I must congratulate you on your extreme discipline in not buying fun new little doo-dads. You're doing a lot better than I am at learning to not be a spender.

Out of curiousity, why do you post the statement "we could live on $1500/month...." each month? You should SHOW that you can do it because until you do, it's just talk.

We do replace clothes. We just replace basics inexpensively. We need underwear, jeans, & shorts. We get t-shirts for free by volunteering. So $70 a month is plenty for us for laundry and clothing. :)

I've covered your question before. We DID do it when we volunteered at the National Wildlife Refuge last winter, so it's not "just talk". :)

Check it out: December 2006, $1,100; January 2007, $800; February 2007, $1,200. Now those months didn't include insurance, but if we add in our $405 a month for all of our insurance (RV, Truck, Life, Health, Umbrella), that would be an average of $1,438 per month for those three months. :)

I post that statement each month because I want folks to know that they don't HAVE to have $2,500 or $3,000 a month to live on as full-timers. We choose not to live that frugally and not to workamp or volunteer that much right now, but we have and we can live on $1,500. :)
