Like I said in yesterday's entry, I was up at 5:00 am. Not much else going on, so I uploaded pictures and did the Journal entry.
But the ship's internet connection dropped right before I posted. So I had to come back later in the day to post.
Back at the room, I changed to go work out. Linda decided to come along.
By this time it was 8:00 am and the fitness center was packed. No treadmills or eliptical trainers available.
So we decided to walk the ship's quarter mile outdoor "track". We ran into John and he walked with us. After a mile, I left the other two to their power walking and ran a mile.
Then it was time for the breakfast buffet. Of course I ate too much. :)
Our cabin steward had made up our room, added ice to our ice bucket, etc. Our bathroom is bigger than in the fifth wheel, but the bedroom is about the same size.
We put on bathing suits and went to find a couple of chaise lounges overlooking the pool. Linda even took her beading since she got an order yesterday. Hey, I might be able to write this cruise off as a business expense. :)
We waited for our group to show up. First, Therese joined us after her early morning spa treatment. Then John found us. It's amazing on a ship this big with 14 decks, that we can find each other so easily.
John wanted to go to the casino for an 11:00 am "gaming lesson". I tagged along since I'm not much for sitting out in the sun doing nothing for very long.
We entered the afternoon's blackjack tournament and then watched as some of the dealers gave lessons on a few of the table games.
Then it was back to find the group. We found them on chaise lounges in the front of the ship overlooking the bow. Since it was away from the pool, it was much quieter with lots more space.
Those are hot tubs on the bow. There are at least seven hot tubs in various places.
We saw a couple whales breaching in the distance. Cool.
John & I went to get a little lunch. When we returned, the others decided it was time for them to get lunch. John & Dan held down the spot and I went to take some pics.
I told you cruises are all about the food. :)
Here is a quick shot of one of the day's activities. This would be a participant in the "hairy chest" contest.
My next activity was a sports trivia contest in the Red Lion Sports Pub. Tough questions. I only got half of them. The winner was a group that got 2/3 of them right. :)
Then I met John at the casino for the 3:00 blackjack tournament while the girls were meeting at Gatsby's Bar for a martini tasting.
We didn't do so well in the tournament. But I plopped down $60 at a table on the way out. I got on a hot streak and walked out fifteen minutes later with $200!
We found the ladies and chatted for awhile.
Then it was time to get ready for our dinner reservations at 6:00 at Le Bistro.
It's a "specialty" restaurant with French cuisine. "Specialty" restaurant means it has a cover charge. But the food doesn't cost extra.
Food throughout the ship is no extra charge and that includes tap water, coffee, juice, and milk. Soft drinks, bottled water, and alcohol costs money and they automatically add a tip to all of those. So a soft drink will run about $2 a pop and alcohol is more like $6 a pop. It can add up quickly if you're not careful.
Linda and I stuck to our water. :)
Jonny & Christian are wine experts and bought wine for the table at dinner. Linda was enjoying that. :)
As was Sheila.
That's Dan on the left, Therese in the middle, and John on the right.
Jonny on the right and Christian in the middle.
This was my lobster & scallop martini.
Linda had a chilled halibut appetizer.
And we both had escargot in tiny pastries with garlic and butter. Yes, that is snails. But oh were they good! Linda loves escargot. :)
Next was french onion soup. Then we had beef tenderloin and braised short ribs. And we finished things off with a creme brulee and apple tart.
What a delicious meal and terrific service! Five gourmet courses for a total cost of $30. Wow!
Now our plan was to eat dinner at 6:00, go to the karaoke bar at 7:30, participate in the Family Feud game at 8:45, and finish off the evening with the Not So Newlywed Newlywed Game at 10:45. But we ate dinner for 3 1/2 hours. :)
So we just went to a lounge and listened to a band for a bit. But that didn't last long and we all broke up about 10:00.
Back in the room, our bed had been turned down and the towel dog greeted us. :)
See? I told you they make animals out of towels. :)
That was it for day two. Linda was feeling quite good today. A welcome relief.
We drifted off to sleep easily.
Tomorrow, we are still at sea and I'm entered in a Texas Hold 'Em tournament. Beyond that, no plans other than to kick back and enjoy. :)
