Howard, as usual I really enjoyed your journal and especially the great pictures. I'm glad that you are able to "break in" the Jeep. Keep up the good work and keep the pictures coming. Happy Trails, Bob

Thanks for buying the Jeep and taking us with you into the backroads of Colorado. It is something I plan to do when I retire, but I am concerned about breaking down or having an accident and no one knowing where you are. How do you plan for that? Do you get cell phone coverage up in the mountains?

AWESOME pictures, Howard. Have added this area to our "Must Visit List".

I just had to comment on this post because having lived in Colorado Springs (my family still does) I have been all over the roads you were on and the views you shared were very familier and good memories. We will be in the Springs the end of August, so will miss meeting you in person. I have been driving a 4-wheel drive vehicle for the last 20 years and wouldn't be without one. We have always lived where there were mountains and so have enjoyed the "outback" for both Sunday drives and camping, for a long time. The roads you were on do not require a four wheel drive, as you discovered, but it does provide a little peace of mind, doesn't it? Your little 4-wheeler is a little light for my tastes but you are having fun and so it is all good. thanks for the memories.

Gene,

That's such a tough question. It's like so much else in life. There is a trade-off between "Just do it" and planning for every single contingency.

We fall somewhere in the middle of that with me on the "Just do it, we'll be fine" side, and Linda on the "What if ....?" side. :)

She worries about everything, and I don't.

My attitude is "whatever happens happens and we'll figure our way out of just about any situation." If we don't, well it was a good life and I didn't spend a lot of energy stressing about things I couldn't control. :)

Linda worries about things she can't control. So we get the good and the bad from that. She tries to prepare us for all sorts of contingencies and she has saved our tails a few times. On the other hand, she exerts a lot of energy worrying about things that never happen. :)

So we balance each other out and just try to do things within our capabilities and not take too many crazy risks. Usually, we let someone know where we are going if we are going to be out in the wilderness. But other than that, it's just basic survival awareness just in case. No major planning when we go on an adventure. :)

Everyone has their own comfort level when it comes to preparedness. :)
