The three of us got up early so we could take Karen on a canoe trip on the Rio Grande. Fortunately, there was no border drama today. :)
We were not "lead" guides today, so we all went in the same canoe. Linda was in charge of pictures .... which means there are fewer photos than I would take. :)
But she did get this shot of a Gray Hawk along the river.
The guides say there may be only fifty pairs of these birds left in the U.S.
We had a good trip and saw lots of birds. I think Karen learned quite a bit about the river and the animals as we floated. It was pretty windy, so it was a tougher paddle than usual, but it was another beautiful day.
The plan was then to have lunch and do some hiking in the Refuge. That didn't quite materialize.
We walked up on the levee where the Hawk Watch is happening every day through April 15 from 8:00 - 1:00. On the way, we spotted a small flock of the gorgeous Scissor-tailed Flycatchers.
I hope to get some better shots of these beauties as they pass through. They are stunning.
We went back to the rig for a little lunch. Lunch turned into a need to go to the grocery and to find some cocktail supplies. That was because Linda called another Happy Hour for this evening. :)
The gals ran those errands while I returned a couple of emails. Since I wasn't feeling well last week, I'm a bit behind on emails again. I'll get to them soon. :)
We had a big Happy Hour with lots of the volunteers showing up with drinks and snacks. Karen got introduced to a bunch of strangers who all welcomed her with open arms.
It's amazing what you can do with a little coconut rum, sugar-free Kool-aid, a blender, and a little ice. :)
We even broke out John's Ladderball and Eddie's horseshoes.
Another good time in the compound. The girls enjoyed themselves while I got into a horseshoe game. It was a good, laid back day. :)
After Happy Hour, we just had a lite dinner, watched TV, and called it an early evening.
I have a feeling the plans we have for tomorrow will be modified a bit. I think Karen has bought into the laid-back, flexible way we do things. :)
