See that you're finally gotten the taste of the best salmon we have out here: King, aka Chinook and, up here, Spring Salmon. You cannot buy it in the store...it somehow magically disappears once it is caught :-) Better yet, you didn't even have to pay for it!

As you may have noticed, blackberries grow like weeds here (if you haven't seen many yet, keep travelling north...they are ripening early again this year and some are already turning rotten). Also good around here are the Rainier and Bing cherries...in every store right now. It's a banner year for large cultivated blueberries(unlike the smaller wild ones that grow on the East Coast. Stone fruits can sometimes be hard to find for the good ripe, but not overripe, ones (apricots, peaches, nectarines). And, if you can, try some of the local strawberries (they will come out again at the beginning of August). They are to die for....only problem is, they don't last more than 1-2 days!

Looks like you may be heading to Whidbey Island way...one of our favourite areas to visit...

Tell Linda not to panic too much if and when she drives over the Deception Pass bridge...it is sturdier than it looks!

Anacortes (on the adjoining island called Fidalgo) is a really beautiful little seaside town with a few good restaurants and lovely harbour to look at from inside Anthony's Seafood Restaurant in the early evening. So is Coupeville in the middle of the Island (noted for it's Penn Cove mussels)...not too many camping areas that you would like...Fort Ebey comes to mind, along with the pretty, but small, Fort Casey at the Ferry Terminal.

Have fun exploring...wish I were there!

If you guys are considering spending more time out here on the peninsula, you might consider the Dungeness Recreation Area. A pretty nice campground, great views of the straight and a nice hike out to a lighthouse if you're up to it.
