My eyes are crossing. I'm glad you know what you are talking about. Sounds like a lot of things to remember for a poor little memory like mine but then you are a youngin' so I'm sure it's going to be AOK from now on. Glad to hear about the problem though I'm going to have to reread it to really understand.

Personally, I prefer our setup because our inverter can be placed in ‘standby mode’ so if we loose shore power the inverter steps in and continues to provide power so that my desktop computer does not crash. Also, since our AC units are not powered through the inverter we don’t have to worry about overloading the inverter or discharging the batteries too quickly if we suddenly loose shore power. I think you are going to tire of this setup of yours, what with having to remember to set everything in the right ‘state’ manually for things to work properly. I see a redesign in your future down the road one day. 8^}

There's always something.......:-)

I know NOTHING about this stuff. Sorry..... my eyes glazed over. Good that you know enough to get out of trouble.

Yup... I followed it along and see the problem you are having. Would removing the entire converter do the job and rely on the solar or driving with alternator to do your charging?

Either that or upgrade to a larger inverter with charging feature (we just did that) and reroute your air conditioner, fridge (when in elec mode), convection/micro to another sub panel at the same time?

For now, it sounds like you have a work-around.

I know I LOVE having a panel inside with readouts of what is charging, what is being drawn down and if the solar panels are getting enough sun. We have a Trimetric one that was pretty easy to add to our solar setup.

Nothing an Elkhart LPT30 ATS ($110 off Amazon), small subpanel and an up-to-date power switching pure sine wave inverter won’t fix. Frankly, I’m surprised your solar installer didn’t suggest updating it all at once. Even more surprising is that manufactures are still using this 1970’s technology.

JC, Karen, VP,
It really isn't that big of a deal. Minor issues as long as we understand everything. This was the first install our installer did without a subpanel, and he probably won't do it again, but it was a mutual decision. Again, it's not a big deal and the system is working great.
