Bathroom Floor Project - Day 6
All that was left to do on Karen & Jay's bathroom floor was the grouting and re-installation of the toilet.
Linda mixed the grout.
They started in the closet where they could practice before they got into the more noticeable areas.
Linda put down the grout ....
and Karen sponged off the excess.
They agreed doing the grout wasn't as bad as they thought it would be, and they knocked it out fairly quickly. They made a great team.
The floor was complete and quite an improvement.
Here's the "before".
They should be quite proud of themselves.
We let the floor dry, and in the evening while everyone else was gone, I re-installed the toilet.
I cleaned it thoroughly and re-seated it using the Perfect Seal Wax Ring the ladies picked up at Lowe's. Once the bowl was seated properly and tightened, I attached the tank, tightened the seat, and tightened the handle. After connecting the water line, I allowed the tank to fill and flushed several times to make sure there were no leaks. All looks good. Here's the floor with the toilet back in place.
All that is left is the threshold between the bathroom and bedroom and putting the doors to the closet and the bathroom back on.
Linda and Karen did a fantastic job, got a lot of satisfaction out of doing it, and they were both glad to have had the experience. But I don't think either of them will be volunteering to to do any more bathroom floors for awhile. They see now why the quote they got from a professional was so high. Still, even with having to call a plumber to install a new flange for the toilet, they saved about $1,000 (not counting the cost of their time).
Way to go ladies! :)
