It was a lovely day here in Welaka. We took advantage of it by doing absolutely nothing. :)
Therefore, I thought I'd do an entry following up on a few items.
We finally got the recipe for Linda's Italian Cream Cake posted.
I wish I could say "award-winning", but that didn't work out so well. It certainly deserves an award according to me and the others here at Welaka Lodge that ate the first one. :)
While we're in the kitchen, I'll give an update on the toaster oven we bought back in November. As you may or may not recall, a toaster oven was one appliance we didn't start with on the road due to our desire to save space.
However, we have plenty of space and, after four years, we decided we missed our toaster oven. We picked up a Hamilton Beach Toastation at Walmart.
Rather than being a true toaster oven, it's sort of a traditional toaster and an oven combined. It looked like a neat idea, but we wondered if it was just the novelty of it that made us buy it.
When in toast mode, there is a carriage that drops the toast, bagels, english muffins, or pop-tarts down into the oven part. When in oven mode, the lever on the top right is switched and a metal cover slides into place over the "toaster hole" to keep the oven heat in.
I'm still not sure we need the two-in-one feature, but we like it. The two-slice Toastation has a narrow oven which may not be big enough for those that use the oven a lot for cooking, but it's fine for our needs of toasting sandwiches, re-heating pizza slices, and making things crispy. Of course, there is a four-slice model which has a wider oven if you are so inclined. :)
Okay, back in August we bought a new printer, our first wireless. It's a Lexmark Interpret S405.
At the time we bought it, there was no information on this all-in-one. We got it at Office Depot, but it wasn't scheduled for official release until September. It wasn't on the Office Depot or Lexmark website at the time, so we were taking a chance. Many were surprised that I hadn't done my usually thorough research. :)
We had been through two HP printers with bottom feeders, and we were frustrated with constant jams. So, we were looking for a wireless with a top feeder. Wow! What a difference!
We love this printer. We just send a document from our laptops from anywhere within the wireless range and it just prints ... every time. What a concept - a printer that does what it is supposed to do. Like I've said before, now if we can only train it to deliver the documents to us in our recliners. :)
Let's see. What else do I need to do a follow-up on? Oh yeah, right after Christmas, we bought a 4-inch memory foam mattress topper.
It was a little too wide for the bed, but we wanted to try it out. Well, we've tried it out for a couple of months now. We just trimmed it to fit last week - an interesting use of an electric knife. :)
Here's the problem with the topper. Since our mattress has sort of broken down, it has two indentations in our sleeping spots. Unfortunately, the memory foam topper forms into the indentations. So, while it is cushiony and a bit more comfortable, we still feel like we're sleeping in a hole. :)
Oh well, it will buy me some more time before Linda demands a new mattress. :)
I guess that wraps up the follow-ups that I've been meaning to do. I just know you've been on pins and needles waiting. :)
Tomorrow, Linda is leaving for a few days to spend time with her sister, Karen, in Jacksonville. She made her wonderful Baked Pork Chops and Scalloped Potatoes so I'll have some great leftovers while she is gone.
What a gal! :)
