As we traveled across the Florida panhandle in December, we checked out some of the state parks on the Gulf Coast. Those state parks are a bit more expensive at around $30 per night and we stayed in three parks on the beach for a total of 17 nights.

We drove the truck 506 miles in December. Most of that, 410 miles, was towing. The other 96 miles was local (shuttling ourselves for river canoe trips and a day of use while our Jeep was in the shop). That total mileage was a few hundred miles less than we expected for the month. :)

Jeep Maintenance $546.59 - Budget $20.00
We bought our 2003 Jeep Liberty in July 2007. Since that time, we had done oil and filter change maintenance, but nothing major. In December, we had a complete service including some brake repairs and a leaking seal fixed.

Our Groceries & Dining Out budget for 2009 is the same as for 2008. It's based on $12 per day per month for groceries PLUS $90 for dining out.
In December, we only spent $200 on groceries. But we dined out more than usual as we traveled. It was worth it. :)
Laundry, Clothing, Hair Care $24.00 - Budget $75.00
Laundry was $24 in December and we had no other expenses.

Insurance - Health, Life, Umbrella, Etc. $154.66 - Budget $220.00
Budgeted for our health insurance to go up with the annual renewal in August 2009. However, the premiums were going up much more than budgeted. So we changed plans and actually had a premium reduction with no loss in coverage.
Medical & Dental Expenses $0.00 - Budget $50.00
In October, I had a severe nosebleed. We went to an emergency room to make sure there wasn't something really serious behind that episode.
The emergency room doctor bill arrived in December. However, since it was sort of an emergency expense rather than a periodic maintenance expense, we included it in the Emergencies/Budget Cushion Category below.
Miscellaneous $101.18 - Budget $150.00
Emergencies/Budget Cushion $385.38 - Budget $300.00
We got the emergency room doctor bill for my emergency room visit in October.
Totals $2,563.89 ($82.71 per day) for normal living expenses - Budget $2,465.00
Totals with Emergencies/Budget Cushion $2,949.27 - Budget $2,765.00.
Well, considering we were $250 over on our Campground Fees and we had the large Jeep Maintenance bill, we did okay at $99 over budget on normal living expenses for December. As often happens we saved in enough areas to compensate for most of those two big overages.
For the year, we were $2,100 under budget on normal living expenses and still $1,840 under in total. Our normal living expenses for the year were $26,647.29 and our total expenses including the Emergencies/Budget Cushion were $30,501.21.
