Back On The Job - (Pagosa Springs, CO)
Linda went to the Ranch House around 8:00. I drug my feet while watching the British Open and headed down around 9:00.
Karen had gone into town yesterday and called this morning to see that everything was okay. Reassuring her that things were just fine, she decided to stay in town longer and take her mother to lunch among other things. I think she is enjoying a little bit of her new found freedom. :)
Linda did paperwork and reservations and filled hummingbird feeders. I did a couple of minor chores and mouse duty.
We are in the wilderness, the cabins are rustic (meaning not air tight), and critters are abundant. Our guests in Vic's Cabin requested a dead mouse removal and the re-setting of some traps. :)
As the day warmed up and things dried out a little, I cut the grass with the Ranch's push mower. The mower is on its last leg and makes the grass cutting a dreaded task.
Later, we completed our "Late Check-In" procedure and hung a box to place envelopes when our guests come in after we are off duty.
In the afternoon, a couple wandered in after seeing our sign at the entrance. That new sign seems to brings someone in about once a day. It'll pay for itself pretty quickly.
This couple was looking for a spot for a small family reunion for next year. I gave them pricing and took them on a tour of the open cabins.
They decided to stay the night - our first walk-in customers. :)
Linda made a pecan pie for our guests to serve later.
We also worked on our in-cabin information binders.
After Doug & JoAnn returned from their hike, Doug & I went fishing. We chose new spots on the river. Another successful outing - we both caught two.
However, I hear he is doubting my second one since he didn't actually see it. Pretty bold statement for someone who gets a ride in the Jeep to the fishing spots each time we go. :)
As we headed back for the evening, a young man from our Angler Cabin was out on the river with us. He spotted a couple elk in the distance in one of our fields.
We gave Taylor a ride back, and I stopped to try to get a long shot of the elk since they were the first ones we'd seen here.
The above shot is with the 300mm zoom, so it was a long, long way off. Then I took the original and cropped it below.

Not a very good pic, but at least it proves to the girls we weren't making it up. :)
Back at the Ranch House, JoAnn was hanging out with Linda. Linda invited our walk-in couple, Bob & Deborah, over for pecan pie. We have sort of established a nightly 7:00 dessert time for the guests.
I used the golf cart to deliver pie to the other two occupied cabins since it was raining. One of them gave us a bag of homegrown tomatoes in return. :)
In talking to Bob & Deborah, we learned that Deborah's parents are in the process of selling their house and becoming full-timers. We gave them RV-Dreams cards and told them to invite mom & dad to our site. :)
In for the evening, I watched the rest of the third round of the British Open which I had TIVOed. Linda worked on creating journal pages to be placed in the cabins so our guests can write about their stay.
Linda was certainly more productive than me today. :)
Looking forward to a good night's sleep and then back at it again tomorrow. Until then. :)

FYI--Photos didn't show in this post. First time I got red x's in box.
I am sure Karen is soooo happy to have you and Linda bringing so many great ideas and executing them with such a professional touch...which I know you both enjoy doing.

Have you adjusted to the altitude yet? I hear Pecan Pie helps!

Smugmug, where we store our photos and then link them in to our webpages, had a period of downtime today. That's why there were red Xs for a bit, but all seems to be fine now. :)
